Why to make challenges?
Sewing not only by ourselves, but also together with other quilters that share our love for improv, is a way to experiment and to stretch boundaries.
Besides participating to challenges set by quilting contests, we tried to construct our own exercises.
By comparing results, we discovered that, even if a group of quilters love the same colours, the resulting work can be very different! For example, Giovanna feels at ease with two solids, Paola and Carla like using more than twenty shades; Giovanna and Carla start many tops and work in parallel, while Paola keeps serial approach with one quilt at a time…
And you? what’s your preference?
In this site, and on the socials, we will share quilting prompts. Anybody is welcome to join: every chance is good to talk about improv!
How to start joining one of our challenges?
- Follow @quiltimprovstudio on Instagram: we launch our prompts there!
- As soon as a game is started, we propose some polls to define game details based on partecipants’ preferences: you’ll be able to respond to the polls on @quiltimprovstudio stories.
- After game launch and polls response, a final layout for the challenge is published in this web site, in the challenges menu. Games are open and free!
- General rules and practices for our games are as follows:
To facilitate sharing during one of our challenges, we define an Instagram hashtag dedicated to each game, and a list of pictures to be shown to share progression status. Beware that, if you opted for your Instagram profile that it be only private, your photos will not be visible to all participants of the game: condition for sharing is to use public Instagram profiles. For all the participants that have finalized their improv quilts based on our prompt, we make available the possibility that the pictures of the finished quilts be collected and displayed in order of arrival on the dedicated Instagram page @quiltimprovstudio. If you want to be included in this gallery, send us a picture of your mini quilt as Direct Message within the deadline indicated for the game (usually in three months from the start), with title, measure, brief comment (and, optional, your nationality). Kindly take care to use bright illumination, and to frame quilt edges parallel to the borders of the photo.
